Premier League 2020-21 Preview: Liverpool vs Southampton

Following the postponement of their Premier League away encounter with Manchester United Fc, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) are set to play in the Premier League against the visitors Southampton Fc.

Date: 08 May 2021 (Saturday) ; Time: 8:15 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Anfield, Liverpool, England.

For the home clash with Southampton Fc (The Saints); Jürgen Klopp most likely will continue to utilise most of the Players that faced the visitors Newcastle United Fc.

However; Benchwarmers like Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keïta, Konstantinos Tsimikas, Ben Davis, Curtis Jones, Rhys Williams, Neco Williams and so on might also be considered.

In terms of the recent games betweens the two sides; the Reds shock loss to the hosts Saints (in January 2021) in the Premier League ended a run of 6 successive wins over the Saints.

That loss perhaps could have started the Reds fall from grace and eventually the Reds Owner’s (Fenway Sports Group) decision to be part of the 12 European Club Owners to form the doomed European Super League (ESL).

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: Prior to the Leeds United away game; Nathaniel Phillips has remained absent as a result of a minor hamstring issue. The Englishman (however) would have played in the postponed Manchester United Fc (The Red Devils) away clash and barring any unfortunate injuries, the Englishman looks set to play in the upcoming fixture.

Divock Origi has been sidelined since sustaining an unspecified muscle injury prior to the Wolverhampton Wanderers Fc away clash.

After sustaining an unspecified injury that seems to be a stomach muscle tear; Caoimhín Kelleher has been ruled out for an unspecified period.

Despite stepping up his rehabilitation, Captain Jordan Henderson has been ruled out possibly for the rest of the campaign after undergoing a successful corrective surgery on the adductor injury sustained during the Everton Fc home fixture.

After sustaining ankle ligament damage during the Tottenham Hotspur Fc away encounter; Joël Matip has been sidelined out for the remainder of the Season but the Cameroonian Defender has stepped up his rehabilitation on the road to full recovery with the view of joining the Reds squad during the Preseason.

Since undergoing successful surgeries on their injured knees; Defensive Stalwarts Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk are currently working on regaining full fitness.

The Club has been steadfast by refusing to set any timescale on the return of the Matip, Gomez and Van Dijk by the Club as the Defensive Trio are unlikely to play this campaign.

Verdict: To secure the Premier League 2020-21 Title, Manchester City (The Cityzens) requires just a win over the visitors Chelsea Fc (The Blues) (before the Reds home clash with the Saints).

As such, the Reds postponed away clash with the Red Devils perhaps could be considered as a blessing in disguise.

Had the Reds won their postponed Red Devils away fixture; then the Cityzens would have won the Premier League 2020-21 Title which thereby makes the Cityzens home clash with the Blues all the more inconsequential.

Any slip ups from the Blues may open the door for the Reds to get back in to the Top-four but West Ham United Fc (The Hammers) in all likelihood looks well placed to secure the Top-four spot.

Comparing the last few games of the Top-four contenders; the Hammers have favourable fixtures compared to the Reds and the Blues.

For the Reds though, any result other than a win over the visitors Saints will extinguish the Reds tiniest hopes of sneaking into the Top-four!
