Premier League 2020-21 Summary: Arsenal vs Liverpool

The reigning English Champions Liverpool Fc (The Reds) continued their impressive away form as they beat the hosts Arsenal Fc 0-3 in the Premier League.

Prior to the game; Jürgen Klopp opted to make just 2 changes to the side that beat the hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers Fc last month for the crucial Premier League away clash with Arsenal Fc as Georginio Wijnaldum and Diogo Jota made way for James Milner and Roberto Firmino.

The Reds looked more composed early in the game despite the lack of confidence in the finishing from Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino.

Arsenal Fc (The Gunners) game looked to be effective as they seemed to cover the angles for the passes into midfield early in the game which thereby forced Ozan Kabak and Nathaniel Phillips to either pass the ball back to Alisson Becker or knock it long.

The Reds though were slowly getting the grip of the game as they looked to gradually work their way into the game and tighten the screw despite no clear chances.

The Reds needed to turn their dominance into a Goal before half time as that would have been frustrating to allow the Gunners off the hook as the visitors have been so commanding and smothered the Gunners in their own half.

Despite a dominant First Half from the Reds, the First Half ended at 0-0 much to the relief of the Gunners.

The Reds continued their dominance during the Second Half and Salah looked to provide the much needed lead but his tame shot was easily blocked by the Gunners defence following an assist from Alexander-Arnold with a cross in the 52nd minute.

Diogo Jota was brought on to replace Andrew Robertson which meant that James Milner was moved back to the Left Back position in 62nd minute as the Reds switched to 4-2-3-1 from their usual 4-3-3 Formation.

In form Jota immediately scored the opening Goal for the Reds with an unstoppable header to the left top corner of the net as Leno could only punch the ball to the net following brilliant cross from Alexander-Arnold.

In the 68th minute, Fabinho provided released Salah who then evaded the tame challenge from Gabriel and slid the ball through the legs of Leno to the bottom left corner of the net to double the advantage for the visitors.

Jota later picked up a Yellow Card for his challenge on Thomas Partey.

Georginio Wijnaldum replaced Roberto Firmino in the 78th minute.

Jota made it 0-3 in the 82nd minute for the Reds after a pass from Gabriel was intercepted by Alexander-Arnold and Mané provided the pass which was duly converted by Jota who put the ball to the right corner of the net.

Rhys Williams was brought on to replace Ozan Kabak in the 84th minute.

The Reds went on to seal the game 0-3 and a much improved performance compared to the Wolves away game.

The result meant that the Reds are just 2 behind Fourth placed Chelsea Fc (The Blues) in the Premier League after the Blues were shocked by relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion Fc 2-5 earlier in the day.

Liverpool (4-3-3 Formation)

Defence:

Alisson Becker – 7: Hardly troubled and even had a laugh in the final few minutes of the game. Kept things simple with neat distribution and positioning.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8: Provided the assist that led to the opening Goal for the Reds. The young Englishman looked threatening going forward and defended well.

Ozan Kabak – 8: The young Turkish International continued to grow in confidence as the game progressed with composed defending, passing and marking.

Nathaniel Phillips – 7: Hardly troubled by the Gunners during the First Half and defended very well to keep the Gunner attack quiet.

Andrew Robertson – 6: Won his battles with Pépé but his deliveries were a tad inconsistent.

Midfield:

James Milner – 6: Vocal and looked to drive the Reds forward. Had a great chance to score during the First Half.

Fabinho – 9: Solid tackling, brilliant positioning and immaculate interceptions from the Brazilian.

Thiago Alcântara – 7: Won his midfield duels and won the ball back for the Reds. Looked to provide the cutting passes as the Reds looked to pin down the Gunners.

Forwards:

Sadio Mané – 7: Heavily involved the Reds attacks and provided a neat pass that resulted in the opening Goal. Looked threatening but the end product has been a letdown.

Roberto Firmino – 7: Sluggish start but managed to retain possession and threaded passes.

Mohamed Salah – 7: Scored the Second Goal for the Reds. Linked well with Alexander-Arnold.

Substitutes:

Diogo Jota – 8: As soon the Portuguese International was brought on, just minutes later he scored the opening Goal. Scored the third for the Reds that effectively sealed the game.

Georginio Wijnaldum – N/A: Brought on to provide more stability in the midfield.

Rhys Williams – N/A: Much need game time and to see off the game.

Coach:

Jürgen Klopp – 8: The Reds love affair at the Capital continued with a dominate win over the hosts Gunners.

The Gaffer made crucial tactical changes at the right time especially by introducing Jota during the Second Half which completely changed the game in Reds favour.

Tougher games lies ahead for the Reds but the race for the Top-four is certainly within the Reds reach!
