FA Cup 2020-21 Preview: Aston Villa vs Liverpool

Following their disappointing 1-0 loss to the hosts Southampton Fc in the Premier League, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) are set to play against the hosts Aston Villa Fc (The Villa) for the Third Round of the FA Cup 2020-21.

Date: 08 January 2021 (Friday) ; Time: 7:45 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Villa Park, Birmingham, England.

Winning a Domestic Cup Title is not the top priority for Jürgen Klopp as winning the Premier League and Champions League are his top priorities.

So, Klopp will most likely select the Players who are mostly youngsters and Bench Players for the Starting XI.

Moreover; as part of the Squad Rotation, Klopp will most likely rest the Key Players that faced the hosts Southampton Fc.

As such; the Reds Youth Academy Players like Caoimhín Kelleher, Rhys Williams, Nathaniel Phillips, Neco Williams and Curtis Jones could all feature for the FA Cup Third Round 2020-21 Tie.

Other benchwarmers like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino might also be included in the Starting XI.

Also, this might perhaps be the last chance for Divock Origi to prove his worth. Since the arrival of Diogo Jota, Origi’s chances have been limited to just hand full of last minute cameos.

In terms of the Reds recent clash with the hosts Aston Villa, no one connected with the Reds needs to be reminded of the Record Breaking 7-2 Loss.

Still, what is becoming a real cause for concern is the Reds Recent Form in the last 3 Matches and they are yet to find the back of the net in the last 2 games.

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: After sustaining an adductor strain during the West Bromwich Albion clash, Joël Matip remains sidelined.

Naby Keïta continues to be out of action for an indeterminate period, due to a muscle related issue.

Since injuring their knees during the Second Half of the FC Midtjylland away fixture, Diogo Jota and Konstantinos Tsimikas faces lengthy absences as they are expected to return around the second week of February 2021.

Defensive Stalwarts Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk remains sidelined for the foreseeable future after undergoing successful surgeries on their injured knees.

The good news is Van Dijk has stepped up his rehabilitation but the Dutchman is still a long way from regaining Full Fitness.

The Club has been reluctant to put a timescale for the return of the Defensive Duo.

Verdict: Klopp will have plenty to ponder as the Reds recent rapid decline of form could even derail their Season. Yet by fielding youngsters and benchwarmers, the decline of form is likely to continue.

Still, this also presents an opportunity to arrest the slide in form and set things right by overcoming the hosts Aston Villa Fc.

It will be a tall order for the youngsters but certainly not impossible. Benchwarmers like Shaqiri and Minamino will also have their chances to prove their worth.
