Fresh from wrapping up their Champions League Group D Campaign, Liverpool Fc has now got a better idea of who their Opponent could be in the Champions League Round of 16.
Despite ending their Last Champions League 2020-21 Group D with a 1-1 draw away to FC Midtjylland, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) had already secured Top Spot in the Group after beating the Visitors AFC Ajax.
This meant that they will face one of the Second placed teams from the other Champions League Groups but does not include English teams (Manchester City Fc and Chelsea Fc).
As per the current UEFA Rules, Clubs from the same Country are given the immunity to avoid facing each other until at least the Quarter Finals (if they all reach that far).
Furthermore, depending on the draw; the Group Winner will face the Runner-up from the other Champions League Groups.
As such, the Reds will be drawn with one of the following 7 Runner-up of the other Groups for the Champions League Round of 16:
Atlético Madrid, Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Porto, Sevilla FC, SS Lazio, FC Barcelona and RB Leipzig.
Also as a Group Winner, the Reds will play the First Leg of Round of 16 Fixture away from home and the Return Leg at Anfield.
Being Champions League 2020-21 Group D Winners, the Reds will be seeded when the draw takes place on 14 December 2020.
The Champions League Round of 16 Matches are currently slated for:
- First Leg: 16/17/23/24 February 2021
- Second Leg: 9/10/16/17 March 2021
Verdict: The Reds will be hoping to avoid the bogey side Atlético Madrid. The Spanish Club so far had a indifferent Champions League form this season but they are currently the Table-toppers in the La Liga.
The last time the two sides faced other, the Reds were knocked out of the Champions League Round of 16 by Atlético Madrid last season.
More importantly, the Reds will be hoping that their Key Players will be available when they are due to face against one of the 7 Possible Opponents for the Champions League Round of 16 Stage.
