David Alaba: To Buy or Not To Buy?

Joël Matip’s frequent injuries enabled Joe Gomez to establish a formidable defensive partnership with Van Dijk. This could have perhaps been the deciding factor for Jürgen Klopp and Fenway Sports Group (FSG) for their collective decision not to bring in a Backup Defender during the Summer Transfer Window 2020.

In the absence of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez has done a decent job at the Centre Back but the young Englishman’s recent performances were not entirely convincing.

The Sheffield United Fc Premier League Home Match was the most recent instance where the Opponent targeted Gomez specifically rather than even the Makeshift Centre Back Fabinho.

Also, other notable instance was Gomez’s poor headed clearance during the West Ham United Fc Premier League Home Clash gave the Visitors an Early Lead.

Both of those Premier League Home Matches, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) had to claw back and win but if they concede an early Goal against Quality Oppositions, the Reds will mostly then get punished severely.

With a Limited Transfer Budget, the Reds prudently spend on buying the Players that improved the squad. Matip made his return from his recent injury and played an important part for the Manchester City Fc Premier League Away Match.

However, the real problem for the Reds is when both Matip and Gomez are injured or out of form. This concern has now actually happened, as Gomez sustained a serious knee injury (while training with the England National Football Team) that will rule him out for the foreeseable future.

As such, the Reds simply cannot afford the drop in the player performances or key players being sidelined for too long as the chance of winning Back-to-Back Premier League Titles can easily slip away in just a matter of Few Matches.

Furthermore, there might be a likelihood that the Reds might have to work again with a Limited Transfer Budget during the January Winter Transfer Window 2021.

So, one Player that is linked with the Reds Transfer is David Alaba. The Austrian International is currently on his Final Year of his Contract with FC Bayern Munich.

Despite offering a Lucrative Contract, the Bavarian Club themselves decided eventually not to give Alaba a Contract Extension but the Player himself might be seeing his future playing at another Elite Club.

Having forged his career as a Left Back, Alaba however is currently playing as a Centre Back for FC Bayern.

The Austrian is a proven World Class Defender and Serial Winner racking up numerous Trophies including Champions League 2019-20 Title with the Bavarian Club. Alaba is very good making passes particularly short passes and supply quality crosses for the attackers.

In addition to being a Left Footed Player; the experienced Alaba offers Invaluable Experience, Creativity, Goal Threat from Open Play and Game Intelligence.

These are some of the critical components that both Joël Matip and Joe Gomez does not offer. Both the Reds defenders look to take the safe route passing to a nearby players rather looking to press and force the errors from the Opposition Players.

The Reds reliance on Trent Alexander-Arnold to score Goals from Direct Free Kicks is another pressing concern. Alaba is also adept at scoring Goals from Direct Free Kicks.

Verdict: Given that Alaba is only 28, so the chance to buy him during January 2021 for a Cut-Price will be too irresistible for the Reds. The Reds will not have any problems to pay the possible heft Salary Requirements of Alaba as proven in the acquisition of Thiago Alcântara.

Acquiring Alaba will undoubtedly be considered a shrewd acquisition and his presence will surely push others including Andrew Robertson to consistently play at their best.

Moreover, the Reds are involved in the Champions League and Premier League this season. In addition, the Reds are due to be involved also in the FA Cup Competition around the First Week of January 2021.

At some point, Virgil Van Dijk will return back to action from his knee injury but the very sight of Alaba and Virgil Van Dijk lining up in the heart of the Reds Defence in itself is mind-blowing.

Besides the likely Rock Solid Defending, one can imagine Van Dijk supplying his Diagonal Passes to the Reds Attackers and Alaba providing his sumptuous Crosses with his Left Foot.
