Champions League 2020-21 Preview: Liverpool vs FC Midtjylland

After their comeback win over the visitors Sheffield United Fc in Last Saturday’s Premier League Home match, Liverpool Fc will resume their Champions League 2020-21 Campaign as they are due to play against the visitors FC Midtjylland in Group D.

Date: 27 October 2020 (Tuesday) ; Time: 8:00 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Anfield, Liverpool.

Liverpool Fc (The Reds) kicked off their Champions League Group D Campaign by beating the Hosts AFC Ajax 1-0. On the other hand, the Champions League debutants FC Midtjylland were thrashed 4-0 by visitors Atalanta B.C in a one-sided contest.

Alisson Becker’s speedy recovery was a major injury boost for the injury stricken Reds. The Brazilian Goalkeeper made an instant impact making crucial saves to help secure the win over the visitors Sheffield United Fc.

FC Midtjylland themselves are fresh from beating the hosts Brøndby IF 2-3 and they are currently on top of the Danish Superliga 2020-21 Table.

Historically, both sides have never played against each other.

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: Virgil Van Dijk is set to undergo surgery after suffering a severe knee injury and will continue to miss out for the foreseeable future. The Reds are coy on putting a Timescale on when the Dutchman will be able to recover from his knee injury.

Thiago Alcântara is due to return after recovering from his knee injury. Both players sustained injuries during the Everton Fc game.

Naby Keïta is also due to return to the side after recovering from COVID-19.

Joël Matip was pulled out prior to the AFC Ajax match due to a tight Leg muscle issue and missed out on playing in the Sheffield Fc match. The Cameroonian might feature in the FC Midtjylland match.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continues to miss out as he is currently recovering from his Knee injury.

Since the Carabao Cup 2020-21 Third Round win over the Hosts Lincoln City, Konstantinos Tsimikas remains sidelined with thigh injury. The Greek International is a major doubt for the upcoming matches.

Verdict: Jürgen Klopp will feel massively relieved to see Alisson return back to the side. Like Alisson, the German Coach will be hoping also for the return of Thiago. The Reds are due to play 3 more matches before the November International Break 2020. As such, the Reds are unlikely to risk playing the Spaniard.

Despite getting hammered by visitors Atalanta BC, FC Midtjylland cannot be considered as any easy opponents. The Reds simply cannot rest on their laurels and must play well to beat the newcomers.
