Premier League 2020-21 Preview: Everton vs Liverpool

Liverpool Fc will return back in action after the October International Break 2020 as they are due to play the Premier League Fixture against the hosts and current Table-toppers Everton Fc.

Date: 17 October 2020 (Saturday) ; Time: 12:30 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Goodison Park, Liverpool, England.

For Liverpool Fc (The Reds), this match would not just be a Merseyside Derby. Their mortifying record away loss to the hosts Aston Villa Fc (The Villa) still hurts and this match gives a chance to bounce back against the hosts Everton Fc (The Toffees).

Key Players like Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and others had gone to play for their respective Countries during the October International Break 2020.

So, Jürgen Klopp will be hoping that the Key Players will return back to Anfield unscathed and be fit to play against the Toffees.

Despite their unflattering Head-To-Head record against the Reds, the Toffees under Carlo Ancelotti had quickly become a formidable team. Besides being an instant upgrade to the Toffees’s Midfield, James Rodríguez had proven to be an influential Player and the Colombian continued with his impressive performances for the Toffees.

The Reds will need to be wary of the influential Colombian and Dominic Calvert-Lewin particularly as the Englishman is in red hot scoring form.

In terms of their most recent meetings, last Seasons’ Goalless Drawn game between the 2 sides at Goodison Park cannot be considered as a precursor as both sides played with no real targets in sight as the Reds in particular had already wrapped up the English League Title.

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: Without Alisson Becker, the Reds are never the same as the Brazilian sustained a shoulder injury during the training (prior to the Aston Villa Premier League away game) and unfortunately for the Reds, the Brazilian Goalkeeper is expected to return from his shoulder injury in about 4-6 weeks.

Aside from Alisson’s injury, Klopp will be eager to bring back Sadio Mané and Thiago Alcântara into the Starting XI as the duo had recovered from COVID-19.

Naby Keïta however is the latest to have been contracted with COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating.

Joël Matip (muscular injury) and Konstantinos Tsimikas (thigh injury) are expected to return after recovering from their injuries.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee injury) though continues to be sidelined and is expected to miss the upcoming Merseyside Derby.

Xherdan Shaqiri interestingly received a false positive test for COVID-19 and the Swiss International was later medically cleared.

Verdict: The Reds has not lost to the Toffees since 17 October 2010, but that record will be under serious threat as Adrián will be expected to take over the Goalkeeping duties from Alisson.

Until the Brazilian’s return, the upcoming fixtures will prove to be testing times for the Reds as the error prone Adrián is expected to fill in.

The good news for the Reds though is the return of Mané and Thiago as the influential duo were sorely missed in the Villa game.
