Carabao Cup 2020-21 Preview: Liverpool vs Arsenal

Following their 3-1 Home win against Arsenal Fc (The Gunners) in the Premier League, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) are due to host the Gunners again but this time for the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup 2020-21.

Date: 01 October 2020 (Thursday) ; Time: 7:45 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Anfield, England.

The last time these two sides met was also at Anfield for the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup 2019-21. In that match, the Reds clawed back into the match drawing 5-5 in normal time and went on to win the Penalty Shootouts 5-4.

The Gunners shocked the hosts Leicester City 2-0 and the Reds beat the hosts Lincoln City 7-2 to setup the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup 2020-21.

Last Sunday Night’s 3-1 loss to the Reds was the Gunners’s first loss of the season. The Gunners’s were left to rue for not making the best use of their limited goal scoring chances but Alisson made 2 crucial saves to deny the Gunners at a point when the match looked evenly poised.

Jürgen Klopp will be looking forward to rest most of the Reds Senior Players that played in the Sunday Night win over the Gunners.

As such, most of the Reds Players that played in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup 2020-21 will most likely feature in the starting XI.

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: With the view of keeping the squad fresh ahead of the Sunday Night’s match against the hosts Aston Villa Fc, Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to risk playing Jordan Henderson.

Thiago Alcântara has been ruled out due to an unspecified fitness issue but the Spaniard is due to be fit to play ahead of the Merseyside Derby against hosts Everton Fc next month.

Both, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Knee) and Joël Matip (undisclosed injury) are ruled out as well.

Verdict: Adrián is due to take over the Goalkeeping responsibilities from Alisson and the Gunners will be breathing easy knowing that Alisson is unlikely to play.

So, the Reds need to be wary of the Gunners’s attack as they look to be more clinical in their finishing.

Also, with most of the Reds Senior Players likely to be rested; the Gunners are expected to play more attacking football rather their usual deep defending and circumspect tactical approach.
