Premier League 2020-21 Preview: Liverpool vs Arsenal

After beating League One side Lincoln City Fc in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup 2020-21, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) are due to play Arsenal Fc twice in space of 4 days with both Matches to be held at Anfield and the first of the double-header will be a Monday Night Premier League Match.

Date: 28 September 2020 (Monday) ; Time: 8:00 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Anfield, Livepool, England.

Liverpool Fc (The Reds) will head into their home match in rich vein of form against Arsenal Fc (The Gunners) after comfortably brushing aside the hosts Lincoln City Fc in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup 2020-21.

The resurgent Gunners under Mikel Arteta had been a thorn for the Reds. Besides being unbeaten so far in this season, the Gunners’s defence had greatly improved under Arteta and had been proven hard to break down. The last time the two sides met, the Gunners beat the Reds on Penalty Shootouts to clinch the Community Shield 2020.

Since, then the Reds quickly acquired Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota to bolster their armoury. Besides providing the unpredictability factor, Thiago helps in resolving the lack of creativity in the Reds midfield. The Spaniard already looks well settled in the squad.

In last Saturday’s Chelsea Fc away game, after replacing the injured Jordan Henderson; Thiago helped the Reds to unlock and break down the stubborn Chelsea Fc defence. The Spaniard even orchestrated the Reds attacking movements during the match, much to the delight of Jürgen Klopp.

The Gunners themselves enters in this match on the back of knocking out Leicester City Fc in their third round of the Carabao Cup 2020-21 and have also beaten West Ham United Fc at the Emirates on last Saturday’s Premier League Match.

Unlike the last 2 times when the two sides met, the Reds this time will be eager to set things right against the Gunners and set the tone for the match by being on the front foot against the Gunners.

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: The Reds will hope that Joe Gomez will quickly recover from his knee injury and be fit in time for the home match against the Gunners.

Given the Reds are due to play 3 games before 05 October 2020, so there is a likelihood that Klopp might give sufficient time for Jordan Henderson to recover from his thigh injury.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee injury) and Joël Matip (undisclosed injury) continues to be sidelined.

Verdict: The Reds defence is slowly getting back into their old groove of stifling the oppositions.

Now armoured with Thiago, the Reds team looks even more dangerous and unpredictable. The World Class Spaniard can unlock tight defences by providing incisive passes and create Goal scoring opportunities for the Reds attack.

As such, this game is unlikely to end in another draw or end in a favourable result for the Gunners.

The Gunners are due for a torrid Monday night and will be put to the sword by the Reds attackers, with Thiago looking to orchestrate the Reds attack.

Barring any unfortunate injuries to the Reds side or sudden drop of Reds form, all Arteta and the Gunners can pray for is to avoid an embarrassing defeat at Anfield.
