Following last Saturday’s pulsating victory over Leeds United at Anfield, the defending Premier League Champions Liverpool will play the Premier League Fixture against hosts Chelsea.
Date: 20 September 2020 (Sunday) ; Time: 4:30 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Stamford Bridge, England.
The last time the two sides met, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) won 5-3 in a high scoring match at Anfield. The Reds particularly will have more fond memories as (after the match) Jordan Henderson finally hoisted the Premier League Title in front of the Kop.
Having secured Champions League qualification last season, Chelsea Fc (The Blues) had gone on to spent over £200+ Million in recruiting new players during the 2020 Summer Transfer Window.
So playing their first Premier League home match this season, the Blues will look to prove their Title contender credentials against the Reds. The Blues are fresh from wining 1-3 by beating hosts Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.
The Reds missed their old defensive swagger which helped them secure the Premier League Title last season (mainly by shackling the oppositions and secure many narrow wins without conceding too many). In the last few games, their defence looked shaky in dealing with counter attacking situations and were repeatedly tested by a brave Leeds United side.
After the Leeds Match, Jürgen Klopp surely would have addressed on the defensive aspect of his team. The Reds defence will need to be on their A-Game while playing against the Blues.
Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continues to be sidelined due to his knee injury.
After Konstantinos Tsimikas was tested positive for Corona Virus few weeks ago, the Reds are unlikely to take any health risks until he fully recovers from the illness.
Despite being back for training, Xherdan Shaqiri looks set to miss the match as he continues to recover from his calf injury.
Verdict: Since Frank Lampard became Chelsea Team Manager, the Blues has made great strides with improved performances. To solve some of their lingering defensive issues, the Blues have brought the veteran Thiago Silva to their side on a free transfer.
Both teams surely would have addressed their defensive issues ahead of the game.
So, it’s less likely to be another high scoring game unlike the last time when the two sides met at Anfield last season.
