Premier League 2020-21 Preview: Liverpool vs Leeds United

The reigning English and World Champions Liverpool Fc will host the Premier League Fixture facing against last season’s English Football League Champions Leeds United.

Date: 12 September 2020 (Saturday) ; Time: 5:30 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Anfield, England.

The last time the two sides met in the Premier League ended in a 2-2 draw (2003-04 Season). It was the same season, when Arsenal Fc (The Gunners) remained unbeaten for the entire Premier League 2003-04 Season and Leeds United got relegated.

Earlier this week, Liverpool Fc (The Reds) brushed aside League One opponents Blackpool Fc (7-2) in their final preseason match at Anfield.

However, the Reds themselves needs to quickly bounce back from their disappointing match against the Gunners (Community Shield) and start their Title defence with a win over the high flying Leeds United.

Leeds United won the English Football League 2019-20 Title with a comfortable 10 points over second place West Bromwich Albion Fc and returned back to the Premier League after 16 years.

So, the Reds need to be wary of Leeds United and expect to face a stern test.

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: After missing the Community Shield 2020 match, Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to start. Joël Matip will be available for selection.

However, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee), Konstantinos Tsimikas (tested positive for Corona Virus) and Xherdan Shaqiri (calf) will miss.

Captain Jordan Henderson is facing a race against time to be fit ahead of the game.

Verdict: Jürgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa are strong advocates of high pressing football tactics, so there might be a likelihood of both their teams being unable to keep a clean sheet.

With so much pride at stake, both teams would look to make a positive start to their Premier League Campaigns.

Leeds United will hope to mark their Premier League return with a positive result at Anfield. But, getting a positive result against the Reds (who are unbeaten in their last 59 home matches) might be a tall order for Leeds United.

Still, Leeds United are no pushover either and they could give the Reds a run for their money.
