3 Promising Players whose contracts are due to expire in 2021

Liverpool Fc (The Reds) particularly under Jürgen Klopp has been strong advocates of either raising young Players from the Youth Academy or buys young Players with potential on cheap.

Fine example of a recent Youth Academy Product that became successful under Klopp is Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Despite not being the Player that Klopp bought during his Managerial reign, Joe Gomez is a recent fine example of buying a young Player with potential on cheap and became successful under Klopp’s management.

Also given the current economic climate and the uncertainties due to the ongoing COVID-19, most Clubs generally would prefer to buy Players who are in the Final Year of their contract with the current Club they are playing for.

Such Players will be available as Free Agent/ Bosman. The interested Clubs would then only have to pay the Sign-on Fees, Player’s Wages and so on.

Since, purchasing the Reds in October 2010 Fenway Sports Group (FSG) mostly buys Players that meets their Player Profile which are:

  • Young Player with potential and room for improvement
  • Willing to improve and work hard for the team
  • Versatility to play in multiple positions
  • Resale value

Based on the FSG’s specific Player Profile requirements and given the current economic situation, the following are the 3 Promising Players whose contracts are due to expire in 2021.

These Players would be the ones the Reds would be greatly interested to bring to the Club.

Giovanni Reyna: The 17 years old currently plays for Borussia Dortmund as an Attacking Midfielder.

Giovanni Reyna is a Player that comes from a family of reputed former football Players. His father Claudio Reyna was a former Manchester City Fc and United States Men’s National Soccer Team Player. And his mother Danielle Egan was a former United States Women’s National Soccer Team Player.

Reyna began his career playing for New York City Fc and joined the Academy team in 2015. It was just a matter of time that the youngster’s incredible talent was soon going to get the attention of Europe’s Top Clubs.

The young American’s playing style has been compared a lot with the former Brazilian great Kaka as Reyna is known for running for extended periods at top speed, cut through the opposition’s defence and score (even stunning) Goals.

Reyna is blessed with blistering pace and an “Eagle-like” eye for making razor sharp passes. He is more than capable at playing either as Left Winger or Right Winger. And also capable of scoring or providing sumptuous crosses from set pieces.

After a string of eye-catching performances, Reyna joined Borussia Dortmund’s academy in January 2019. He will rightly feel that he is been under utilised at Borussia Dortmund. With his contract expiring in 2021, Reyna will be relishing to join a big Premier League Club and make his big step in his bright career.

Gianluigi Donnarumma: The 21 years old currently plays for A.C. Milan as a Goalkeeper.

Widely regarded as the best young goalkeeper in the world and having started his career with ASD Club Napoli, Gianluigi Donnarumma later joined A.C. Milan as part of the Rossoneri youth academy in 2013.

Even in his budding career, the young Italian always played in the age group above him and eventually made his professional debut for the Club before his 17th birthday. Since then, he became known as the “Heir” to the legendary Italian Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Donnarumma is physically strong with strong reflexes, agility, anticipation, positioning and brilliant shot stopping skills. Despite still being 21 years old, his height measures at 1.96m which is quiet tall especially for a young Goalkeeper. His daunting height enables him to come out quickly and reach out almost anywhere.

Donnarumma has been consistent and constantly improves his Goalkeeping skills. He has kept 10+ clean sheets for the last 5 seasons, which is truly remarkable for a young Goalkeeper.

With his contract due to expire in 2021, it’s no secret that Europe’s biggest Clubs will be vying for his signature.

Maxime López : The 22 years old currently plays for Olympique de Marseille as an Attacking Midfielder.

Having joined  Olympique de Marseille ‘s football academy in 2010 from F.C. Burel, Maxime López eventually made his senior debut in August 2016. Due to his Algerian heritage and being a Olympique de Marseille Football Graduate, he been touted as the next Samir Nasri.

With Paris Saint-Germain F.C.’s financial might and iron grip on France Ligue 1 competitions, Olympique de Marseille as a Club is known to punch above their weight. López played his part in helping  Olympique de Marseille  become runners up in the last season (2019-20).

López is a versatile playmaker capable of fluid movement and relishes in helping the team to build-up the play or counter attacks. He offsets his short stature with dribbling, agility and dynamism.

The young Frenchman is more than adept at playing either as a Holding Midfielder or as a Creative Attacking Midfielder due to his quick and intelligent passing.

With his contract expiring in 2021, López might follow similar footsteps of Nasri by joining a Premier Club. His versatility and playmaking skills will truly be an asset for any Premier League Club.

Which Promising Players do you think the Reds would be interested to bring to the Club during the 2021 Summer Transfer Targets?

Verdict: Reyna, Donnarumma and López fit perfectly FSG’s and Jürgen Klopp’s Player requirements (of young, promising, versatility, room for improvements and future resale value).

Given that their respective contracts are due to expire in 2021, all these 3 young Players will be available for a cut-price.

Furthermore, it is important to note that between now until January Winter Transfer Window 2021; there can be the likelihood that some of them can extend their existing contracts with their Parent Club.
