FA Community Shield 2020 Preview: Arsenal vs Liverpool

Less than a month after the 2019-20 domestic season ended, Arsenal Fc (FA Cup 2019-20 Winners) will play against the Premier League 2019-20 (and FIFA Club World Cup 2019) Champions Liverpool Fc (The Reds) for the FA Community Shield 2020.

Date: 29 August 2020 (Saturday) ; Time: 4:30 p.m (BST) kick-off ; Venue: Wembley, England.

Both the Reds and Arsenal Fc (The Gunners) are 15 times winners of the Community Shield.

The match is set to kick-off without the fans as a result of the ongoing British Government guidelines concerning the Corona Virus Pandemic.

Following their penalty shootout loss to Manchester City Fc in the previous Community Shield (2018-19), the Reds are appearing for the second successive year. Unlike the last time, the Reds will be brimming with supreme confidence after winning the Premier League Title smashing several records along the way (including winning the Title with 7 Matches to spare).

Heading into the match, both the Gunners and the Reds warmed up playing their respective friendlies.

The Reds played their friendlies against Stuttgart Fc and RB Salzburg (during the Preseason held in Austria). And the Gunners brushed aside MK Dons on Tuesday evening.

Reds Team Injuries and Suspensions: Virgil Van Dijk sustained a blow to the face during the match against Salzburg but he is expected to be fit for the match.

After sustaining a slight niggle, Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to start or at least play some part (after missing the Austrian preseason trip).

Jordan Henderson is due to return to the training after the Saturday’s game as he is due to be ready for the Reds first Premier League 2020-21 fixture against newly-promoted Leeds United on 12 September 2020.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) and Joël Matip (foot) will miss as well.

Kostas Tsimikas could make his debut for the Reds.

Verdict: Thanks to the rare blunders from Van Dijk and Alisson Becker, the Gunners beat the Reds in their last meeting.

Both the Reds and the Gunners are due to play several games within a short space of time along with their respective European and domestic cup commitments (during the 2020-21 Season). So, both managers will be keen not to overburden their key players.

Yet under Jürgen Klopp; the Reds will be looking forward to laying down a marker by winning the Community Shield and continue racking up silverwares.

With a near full strength squad, the Reds are expected to overcome the Gunners and win their first Community Shield (since 2006).
